SUBJECT: Set of stamps issued to bear witness to Vietnamese people's gratitude with regard to the nations of the Free World for their assistance.
10 DONG STAMP SCOTT # 484: Memorial erected in Duy Tan square, Saigon, since September 1967 as an expression of deep gratitude from the government
and people of the Republic of Vietnam lor the friendly nations' assistance. The memorial consists of three architectured items :
1) THE "FLOWER OF FREEDOM" is represented by five hands holding an emblem. These 5 hands symbolize the 5 continents of the world contributing their valuable assistance to the Vietnam people for
the cause of Freedom.
2) THE CEREMONIAL PLATFORM : The monument, raised lor the purpose of ceremonies, recalls the traditional architecture. 11 stands on eight pillars and has the shape of a leaf "the leaf of freedom". A cenotaph erected on a turtle's back is an architectural work constructed in accordance with the Vietnamese traditional spirit. In theold days, the Emperors used to raise cenotaphs on which the valorlous exploits of menterious mandarins were engraved.
3) THE WATER POOL: That reflects back the flower of freedom and the ceremonial platform is adormed with lotus and nenuphars, flowers which are emblematical of serene and peaceful natured people of Asia.
